An Invitation to Sencha Tea Ceremony of Kagetsuan School

What is Sencha style.
Sencha style is not only a way to enjoy drinking tea but also to find a spirituality in drinking tea. The core of the spirituality is called “nothingness” in Zen Buddhaism. Nothingness means to throw out all the selfishness in the worldly life. Through drinking tea in a certain way, we hope to reach a state of “nothingness.”

Kagetsuan School in Sencha style
In the midst of Edo era, Baisaou is a practitioner who combines tea and zen Buddhism.
Succeeding the spirit of Baisaou, the founder of Kagetsuan School, Kagetsuan Kakuou started and developed this Sencha style tea ceremony.?

Kakuou composed a poem to express the core value of drinking tea.

Forget the troubles of worldly life in the sound of boiling water.
Wake up from dreams of darkness in the wave of boiled water
Wash off the filth of the world,
Taste the sweetness of the tea, Enjoy the clean aroma of tea and
Let’s serve a cup of tea for Gods and Buddha.
